How to use the kit
- Put on the gloves and choose a hard, non-porous surface such as a wall near a heater, a rangehood, a window frame or a door frame.
- Wet the swab with the extraction solution and wipe the surface firmly, back and forth, covering about a 10 cm by 10 cm area.
- Return the swab to the solution and mix as the instructions describe.
- Add the stated number of drops to the cassette well and lay it flat.
- Read the result in the time shown in the instructions. Follow the leaflet for how to interpret the lines.
Know the limits
A kit tells you whether methamphetamine is likely present on the spot you swabbed. It does not tell you how much, does not cover the whole property, and is not accepted as evidence by most insurers or tribunals. Research on Australian kits found negatives are generally reliable, while positives need confirmation.
If your result is positive
Limit time in the area, don't start cleaning, and book professional testing. A detailed assessment shows exactly where contamination is and how much, which is what a remediator or insurer needs.
